Israeli forces demolish residential building in Silwan, displacing 50 residents
Israeli forces have demolished a residential building in Silwan neighborhood in eastern al-Quds, displacing 50 residents.
The Palestinian Wafa news agency quoted local sources as saying the building was destroyed under the pretext that it had been built without a permit.
The regime had handed the residents of the building’s seven housing units an evacuation order in 2018.

Israel regularly razes homes built by Palestinians in eastern al-Quds and the West Bank, citing a lack of relevant construction permits.
According to a UN study, those permits are "virtually impossible" to obtain for Palestinians.
Palestinians say the regime’s demolition drive is part of its policy of dispossession and ethnic cleansing, which has been continuing for over seven decades.

Israeli demolitions have increased hugely since late 2022, when Benjamin Netanyahu returned to power leading what is described as the most right-wing Israeli cabinet ever.
Recent UN data reveal a 42 percent increase in all demolitions this year compared with a similar time frame last year.
Earlier this month, the UN special coordinator for the Middle East condemned the Israeli demolition of an EU-funded primary school in the West Bank, describing the move as “deeply disdaining.”
