People in Afghanistan celebrated the festival of Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, on Friday. Press TV correspondent in the Afghan capital Kabul filed this report.
Eid al-Fitr, a Muslim festival that marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, was celebrated in Afghanistan with tremendous religious fervor on Friday. The joyful event has a special place in Islam.
People prepare for this Eid several days in advance by buying sweets and pastries. They also visit their relatives on this occasion.
Eid al-Fitr isn’t just a day of joy and merry, but also a day to take care of the poor. Zakat al-Fitr is an amount of money paid to the poor by heads of families in Muslim countries.
In Muslim countries, depending on the location, the sighting of the crescent moon that determines Eid al-Fitr varies. Therefore, this year, some countries declared Friday as Eid al-Fitr, while in some other nations, the annual festival will be celebrated on Saturday.
After a month of abstinence from eating and drinking from dawn to dusk, Muslims regard Eid al-Fitr as a heavenly gift.
