Supporters of Nigeria's Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have marched through the streets of the capital, Abuja, chanting and condemning the results of the country's latest presidential election.

Demonstrators said the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, did not follow some provisions of the electoral laws in conducting the election and in announcing the results.

Protesters marched toward the headquarters of the INEC in Abuja where they demanded unsuccessfully to see the chairman of Nigeria’s electoral body.

The opposition PDP and the Labor party have separately approached the Court of Appeal, challenging the outcome of February 25 presidential election.

The Court of Appeal, which serves as a presidential election petition court, has granted the request of the two political parties for access to inspect sensitive election materials.

The demonstrators said the protest is necessary given the fact that gubernatorial and the National Assembly elections are coming up on March 11.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s president-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has appealed to the opposition to come and join him to work for the unity and progress of Nigeria.

Nigeria’s president-elect is expected to be sworn-in on May 29 once the courts have established him as the winner.
