Manager charters plane to save Iranian worker from amputation
Manager of a petrochemical plant in southern Iranian province of Khuzestan decided to charter a flight to transfer an injured worker to a well-equipped hospital in the capital Tehran so that he could be saved from leg amputation.
A Thursday report by the official IRNA news agency said that the unidentified worker’s leg had to be amputated after he suffered serious occupational injuries during a working shift last week at Marun Petrochemical Complex (MPC), located in the Persian Gulf port city of Mahshahr.
The report said MPC’s CEO decided to charter a plane to fly the worker to Tehran after doctors in hospitals in Mahshahr and in the provincial capital of Ahvaz decided to amputate his leg to stop his suffering.
The worker was spared amputation after a successful surgery in Tehran’s Gandhi Hospital where he continues to receive post-operative treatment, the report added.
It hailed the managerial decision as "prompt and humane" and said that it saved an uninsured worker of the MPC from a disability that could destroy the rest of his life.
