UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has reassured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of London’s long-term military and financial support for Kiev, as the war still drags on across the country.

In a phone call on Tuesday, Sunak told Zelensky that "Ukraine could count on the UK to continue to support it for the long term, as demonstrated by the recent delivery of more than 1000 anti-air missiles."

"Work was also underway to provide further equipment in the coming weeks and months to secure Ukraine’s victory on the battlefield," Sunak added.

Upon taking office in October, Sunak assured Kiev of London's firm support for the European country in the face of the Russian military operation.

He said back then that his country's "support for Ukraine would be as strong as ever under his premiership, and [Ukraine's] President [Volodymyr] Zelensky could count on his Government to stand in continued solidarity."

The British PM’s pledge of financial support comes amid of his government’s failure to address the skyrocketing inflation, which has caused a worsening cost-of-living crisis across the UK.

Ukraine has been at war with Russia since President Vladimir Putin declared a “special military operation” in late February. The Russian president said the campaign was to “de-Nazify” Ukraine.

Ever since, the United States and other Western powers have supplied Kiev with military aid. The UK has sent more than £2.3 billion in military assistance to Kiev, including more than 5,000 NLAW anti-tank weapons and M270 multiple launch rocket systems.

Russia has repetitively warned the UK and its western partners against fanning the flames of war by supplying Kiev with lethal armaments.
