The police commander of Iran’s southwestern province of Khuzestan says intelligence and security forces have busted a smuggler carrying a shipment of ammunition.

Brigadier General Mohammad Salehi said on Saturday the security forces were closely monitoring a smuggler who transferred the arms to the provincial capital city of Ahvaz.

The smuggler was arrested during a successful operation in Ahvaz in coordination with judicial authorities, he added.

Salehi explained that a Colt, 1,800 Kalashnikov cartridges, 50 Colt cartridges and eight magazines were also confiscated from the smuggler’s car.

People’s security is a "redline" for the police, he emphasized, vowing a decisive response to anyone who seeks to disrupt national security.

Earlier this month, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC)’s Intelligence Organization identified and dismantled a terrorist team backed by a European country in the city of Ahvaz.

According to an informed intelligence source, the confessions of the detained members of the sabotage team had revealed their plans to “assassinate a number of Arab people and personalities in Khuzestan.”
