US President Joe Biden has told his Democratic allies of his intention to run for president again in 2024.

Reverend Al Sharpton informed his National Action Network (NAN) staff in Washington that Biden told him in a private last month that he will seek a second term, NBS reported on Tuesday.

"I’m going to do it again. I’m going,” Biden said at a meeting with the leaders of black civil rights groups, which took place at the White House on September 2, an official from NAN told the news network.

In addition to being the founder of the NAN, Sharpton is an American civil rights activist, Baptist minister, talk show host and politician.

That remains to be seen

Biden has yet to formally announce his candidacy for the Democratic Party in upcoming elections.

“Look, my intention, as I said to begin with, is that I would run again. But it’s just an intention. But is it a firm decision that I run again? That remains to be seen," Biden said in 60 Minutes show on CBS in mid-September.

In the meantime, a survey of US adults in September 2022 by Statista Research Department indicated that around half of the respondents held an unfavorable opinion of the 79-year-old Democratic president.

Ten percent had a somewhat unfavorable, and 41 percent a very unfavorable opinion of Biden.

This is while 44 percent of respondents had either a very favorable or somewhat favorable opinion of him.

A similar survey by ABC News/Washington Post showed that 56 percent of respondents wanted the Democratic Party to pick someone else.

In general, more than half of Americans say Biden is not competent in running the government.

"Battered on trust, doubted on leadership, and challenged on overall competency, President Biden is being hammered on all sides as his approval rating continues its downward slide to a number not seen since the tough scrutiny of the [Donald] Trump administration," said Quinnipiac University Polling Analyst Tim Malloy.
