Asian Club Championship: Peykan top Erbil in 3 sets to reach semis

Iran’s Peykan have cruised to the semi-finals of the Asian Club Volleyball Championship, after posting a straight sets win, over Iraq’s Erbil.

Buoyed up by the support from the home crowd at Azadi Hall in Tehran, Peykan got off to a strong start, dispatching their Iraqi rivals 25-13, in the 1st set. It was more of the same story in the 2nd, as the Iranian outfit doubled their advantage, with the Iraqis managing 19 points this time.

The 6-time Asian champions wrapped up the 3rd set in style, as they held Erbil to just 14 points, for a comfortable win. Awaiting Peykan in the last 4 is Taraz VC of Kazakhstan.

Meanwhile Shahdab Yazd overcame Iraq’s South Gas, in a closely fought battle, in the quarter-finals. The Iranians outlasted South Gas 25-22 in the 1st set, and clinched the next 2 sets with a score-line of 25-19 and 25-18. Next up for Shah-dab is Japan’s Suntory Sunbirds in the semis.
