Bagnaia beats world champion Quartararo to win Spanish MotoGP

Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia has dominated the Spanish Grand Prix to record his first MotoGP success of 2022, ahead of series leader, Fabio Quartararo.

Bagnaia and Quartararo, who had qualified 1-2 on the grid, went on for a duel at Jerez, as their pace was far superior to the rest of the field.

Quartararo was trailing close and even got the gap to under half-a-second on the penultimate lap. But Bagnaia made no mistakes to claim his first win since Valencia last year, beating the Frenchman by 0.285 seconds.

Alesh Espargaro completed the podium, almost 11 seconds adrift. Quartararo’s points lead now stands at 7 over Espargaro, heading to his home event at Le Mans in France in two weeks’ time.
