Press TV has conducted interviews with pro-Palestine scholars and activists in various parts of the world ahead of the International Quds Day.

Israel’s recent acts of violence at the al-Aqsa Mosque compound have drawn global denunciations. Certain Muslim and Arab states have also been under fire for normalizing ties with the Israeli regime and acting very poorly in defense of the Palestinian cause.

The International Quds Day, held annually on the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan, was initiated by the founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini in 1979. Thanks to his will, the issue of al-Quds and Palestine turned into a convergence point for Muslims; a source of unity in the face of the Israeli occupation.

The al-Aqsa Mosque compound has been at the center of weeks of ramped-up Israeli aggression against Palestinian worshipers. With dozens of Palestinians killed so far, fears remain that another full-scale war could break out amid warnings of retaliation coming from resistance groups in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Mohammed Quarab with the Global Coalition to Support al-Quds in Turkey said in the interview he gave to Press TV that the violations committed by the Zionist settlers under the protection of Zionist forces are committed to provoke the sentiments of Palestinians and the whole Muslim Ummah. This mosque is a holy site not only to the Palestinians but the entire Muslim community.

“Unfortunately, those provocations have become more frequent and are not happening during the holy month of Ramadan but yearlong, therefore, we must keep struggling to free Palestine and liberate it from the Zionists’ occupation.”

Enamullah Samangani, a deputy spokesman for the Taliban government in Afghanistan, said the Muslim world should form a united front to counter Israel.

“As unity forms the basis of Islam, today all Muslims worldwide should practically take steps to end decades of Israeli aggression against the Palestinians. Muslims must not let their first ‘Qibla’ and al-Aqsa be kept under the Zionists’ occupation. Muslims should also take a firm stance against any deal on the rights of the Palestinians.”

Abdul Rahman al-Ahnoumi, with the Yemeni Media Union, said the Israeli escalation in the holy month of Ramadan “comes as an attempt to divide the blessed al-Aqsa Mosque and to fulfill the plan to Judaize the occupied city of al-Quds and implement the agenda of the current Israeli cabinet, as we see Zionist gangs storm in the morning and withdraw at noon, which is a clear effort to sow division.”
