Raeisi hails good relations with Oman, says there is room to boost bilateral trade ties

Iran has good interactions with Oman, but there is room to further develop bilateral economic and trade ties, Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi says, calling for the existing “significant capacities” to be utilized.

During a meeting with visiting Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr al-Busaidi on Wednesday, Raeisi said Tehran has a policy of expanding cooperation with friendly countries, especially Oman.

“Iran’s relations with Oman are good, but there is room for further development in the field of economy and trade,” he said. “The significant capacities of both countries can be tapped to expand [bilateral] economic and trade relations.”

He also thanked the Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tariq, for officially inviting him to visit Muscat, saying such interactions can play an effective role in boosting bilateral ties and resolving regional and international issues.

The Iranian president invited the Omani sultan to visit Tehran likewise.

Raeisi lauded Muscat’s stances on the security of the region, the Muslim world, and the oppressed people of West Asia as “good and dignified” and “remarkably different from certain regional countries.”

“Oman’s attention to Palestine and Yemen and regional issues is notable,” he said.

The chief Iranian executive underlined that regional countries have the necessary capabilities and power to provide security for the region, adding, “The presence of foreigners in the region has no result but posing threats to [regional] security.”

Oman awaiting Raeisi’s ‘historic visit’

The Omani foreign minister thanked the Islamic Republic’s support for neighboring countries.

“There are excellent relations between Iran and Oman, which have been historically based on mutual trust, respect, and positive cooperation for the benefit of regional and international security,” he said.

He told Raeisi that his future visit to Oman will be a “historic visit” that would attain the two nations’ goals.

“We will always support your pragmatic spirit in all your endeavors and will strive to put your approach into use to boost [bilateral] relations,” he noted.

“The relations between Iran and Oman have become a model in the relations between regional countries, and we are proud of these historical and deep-rooted relations,” al-Busaidi added.

Earlier in the day, the Omani foreign minister met with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

During that meeting, Amir-Abdollahian said Tehran-Muscat relations are “on a good path” and hailed the two countries’ political ties as “exemplary and strategic” in the Persian Gulf region.

Iran seeks preferential trade deal with Oman: Minister

Iranian minister says the country will pursue a preferential trade deal with Oman.

The Omani foreign minister, for his part, expressed hope that Iran and Oman will be able to achieve their common goals through expanding their interactions.

“We hope that our efforts can bring security, prosperity, and wellbeing to our nations through peaceful solutions, dialog, and encouragement of others to build trust on the issues facing our region,” he said.

Earlier this month, Iran’s minister of trade Reza Fatemi Amin traveled to Muscat, where he called for an agreement with the Arab country to allow preferential trade with the Arab country. 

Fatemi Amin asserted that a preferential trade agreement (PTA) between Iran and Oman will significantly boost economic and trade ties between the two friendly nations.
