Unclear Nuclear Talks

Angela Merkel is finally bidding farewell to the office of German chancellor after 16 years. During her long term in office, she saw many come and go.

From Silvio Berlusconi, Romano Prodi, Mario Monti, Enrico Letta, Matteo Renzi, Paolo Gentiloni and Mario Draghi in Italy, to Jacques Chirac, Nicolas Sarkozy, François Hollande, and Emmanuel Macron in France, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, Donald Trump in the United States, Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, David Cameron, Theresa May, and Boris Johnson in the UK and even sleepy Joe Biden who hasn’t officially left his job yet, but if he does, remember you heard it first on Cats and Dogs.

What Ms Merkel didn’t see was the successful resolution of the Iran Nuclear Talks. Recently, after rounds and rounds and rounds of negotiations, the Europeans even asked for a short pause in proceedings so they could return for consultations in the capital of Europe namely Washington.

It seems that, despite their best efforts, the Europeans failed to revive a nuclear deal to serve the thing that seems to matter most: their own interests. Yes, they’re unhappy because, for some crazy reason, Tehran tried to insist on rights in the original 2015 agreement.
