The presidents of Russia and the Palestinian Authority held talks in Sochi. The leaders discussed the further development of bilateral cooperation and the situation in the West Asia region, taking into account the efforts undertaken by Russia for a Palestinian-Israeli settlement.

The two sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations in economic, cultural, and other fields.

The efforts of the Russian side in inter-Palestinian dialog with the aim of achieving reconciliation and ending the split were also touched upon. Abbas thanked Putin for Russia’s stance towards the Palestinians.

The visit of the president of the Palestinian Authority took place at the invitation of Vladimir Putin. Experts believe that the Palestinian leader pins hope on Russia’s support to resolve current problems.

The position of Russia on the settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli question remains unchanged. It is based on the construction of two independent states in the interests of the peoples of this region in accordance with decisions taken at the level of the UN Security Council.
