UK businesses struggling post-Brexit

Back in 2019, Boris Johnson reassured a Brexit weary British public that there was nothing to worry about when it came to trade with the EU.

But since getting the job done, British businesses have filled 48 million customs declarations and 140,000 export health certificates and that is just the tip of the iceberg.

Brexit Minister David Frost has warned that the UK could suspend the Northern Ireland Protocol to address these issues.

The EU is ready to take immediate retaliatory action if the UK triggers article 16, and British business leaders are very worried.

Boris Johnson has described these as growing pains, but traders say they are post-Brexit hiccups bordering on heart attacks, with a record number declaring bankruptcy.

With the pandemic taking its toll and energy prices shooting up, it is a perfect storm that has hit the UK. A logistical, regulatory and administrative nightmare for businesses large and small which for now, is the new norm.
