Campaigners outside the Liverpool City Council opposing an upcoming arms fair in their city home to people of Yemen and Palestinian heritage.

The arms fair in set to kick off here in a few days, showcasing plane and missile components, drones and other military hardware. The building is owned by the city council that campaigners say has refused to cancel the fair despite months of protests and petitions.

Starting on October 12, the fair will provide a venue for some of the world’s most notorious weapons makers: the UK’s BAE systems which has made a bomb selling arms to Saudi Arabia and the emirates to be used against Yemenis Elbit systems, a UK-based Israeli company accused of testing its deadly armaments on Palestinians and American firm Raytheon also a major supplier to Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Today’s protest follows days of action against one of the world’s biggest arms fairs in London last month. And they’re all calling for the same thing: an end to weapons exhibitions and to the UK government’s unquestioning support for arms exports.
