Gazans mark 34th anniversary of Islamic Jihad Movement

October 6 marks the anniversary of the outset of the Islamic Jihad Movement. Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip from all walks of life have come out to show their support for the movement.
The Islamic Jihad was founded by the late Dr. Fathi Shaqaqi who was inspired by Iran’s Islamic Revolution and the teachings of its late founder, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.
Shaqaqi viewed the Islamic Revolution as a role model for the Arab world and believed in the principle of Velayat-e-Faqih, which means the rule of the Islamic Jurisprudent.
During the rally, Islamic Jihad senior officials urged Palestinians to increase their resistance against the Israeli occupation forces all across Palestine. The group’s secretary general, Dr. Ziad Nakhala called on all Palestinian factions to uproot the Israeli regime from the Palestine land.
The movement is highly respected by all Palestinian factions and has always been a unifying factor among them.
The Movement and its leaders, however, remain blacklisted by the European Union and the United States for refusing to recognize the Israeli regime.
Thirty-four years on, the popularity of the Islamic Jihad Movement continues to grow among Palestinians due to the movement’s strict adherence to armed resistance against the Israeli occupation.
