Tunisia’s political crisis and rising tensions have sparked reactions from countries across the globe.

Tunisian President Kais Saied held a phone call with his Algerian counterpart Abdelmadjid Tebboune and discussed the latest developments. Saied assured him that Tunisia is on the right path to establishing democracy and that there will be important decisions soon.

The Egyptian government has also said it is following with great interest what’s happening in Tunisia and what authorities are doing there to achieve security and stability.

Last week, the Tunisian president invoked emergency powers to seize control of the government, remove the prime minister and freeze parliament.

Saied has held meetings at the presidential palace with ministers of foreign affairs of Libya, Morocco, Algeria and Saudi Arabia. They were briefed on the latest developments in Tunisia and affirmed their support for the Tunisian people and for the recent decisions of the president.

The president also affirmed his commitment to bearing the trust and responsibility of protecting the country and confronting all attempts to strike and fragment it.

The European Union has called for the resumption of Tunisian parliamentary activity as soon as possible. It also urged the political parties in Tunisia to respect the constitution and avoid violence.

The Tunisian people are waiting for Saied to name a new prime minister and line out a roadmap after he invoked emergency powers. This will determine the next step and what lies ahead for the country’s future.
