Italy have won Euro 2020 after beating England 3-2 in a dramatic penalty shootout, following a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes of fierce battle at Wembley.
England took Italy by surprise in as early as the 2nd minute when Luke Shaw blasted in Kieran Trippier perfect cross to score the fastest ever goal in a European Championship final.
Italy improved significantly in the second half and just after the hour mark they grabbed an equalizer with Leonardo Bonucci poking home a scrappy goal from a corner.
After a tense period of extra time failed to find a winner, the match went into penalties. To Gareth Southgate’s bitter disappointment last minute substitutes Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho both missed their chances from the spot.
But England’s fading hopes were temporarily restored when Jordan Pickford threw England a lifeline by saving the Azzurri's last attempt. However, that wasn’t meant to be as Gianluigi Donnarumma saved Bukayo Saka’s effort to see Italy lift the Trophy after 53 years.
