The tensions have escalated in the Gaza Strip as several residential towers were hit by the Israeli airstrikes, causing further casualties.

Hamas fired hundreds of rockets toward Israel following Israeli airstrikes that destroyed residential areas in several parts of Gaza City. So far dozens of Palestinians have been killed and many others injured in Israeli raids since the beginning of the escalation on Monday.

Earlier, Hamas leader, Ismail Haniyeh in a live speech said that Palestinian resistance groups would defend Jerusalem al Quds. He added that Israeli regime must be held accountable for the latest escalation because of its actions in Jerusalem al-Quds.

The escalation was sparked by Israeli attack against Palestinian worshippers in the al-Aqsa Mosque compound on Monday and the recent eviction plans of Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in East Jerusalem al-Quds.

The escalation came as Palestinians were preparing to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, but the ongoing Israeli raids over the strip stand as a barrier in front of holding any celebrations in Gaza.
