Both Republican and Democratic parties serve US imperialism: Analyst

Both the Republican and Democratic parties in the United States serve Wall Street, the military-industrial complex, and American imperialism, according to Myles Hoenig, an American political analyst and activist.

Hoenig, a former Green Party candidate for Congress, made the remarks in an interview with Press TV on Saturday after it was revealed that the administration of US President Joe Biden is seizing land near the US-Mexico border to be used to continue building former President Donald Trump’s controversial border wall, according to a new report.

An investigation by Politico on Friday revealed that the US government has seized six acres of land in Hidalgo County, Texas.

The seized property is reportedly part of a court case brought during the Trump administration to build the controversial wall which the former Republican president was building despite strong opposition from human rights groups.

“President Biden might be un-doing much of the Trump policies, especially his executive orders, but in many ways, he has proven that a change in party leadership doesn’t necessarily mean any ‘radical’ changes in policy at the White House. Regardless of what Trump did as president, both parties serve Wall Street, the military-industrial complex, and American imperialism and empire building backed up with their ‘moral’ belief in American exceptionalism,” Hoenig said.

“This has not changed substantially at the border. Biden may be more humane in dealing with the migrants, fewer cages, more placement, and he is dealing with an unusual influx of unaccompanied minors. But the wall, which started under the Obama/Biden administration, continues to be built. We remain a nation of immigrants and welcome them, but far more selective these days than ever before and quotas remaining inhumanely low, with the Biden administration reversing campaign promises in this regard,” he added.

“One thing that has changed in the Democratic Party is that finally there are members, albeit very few, who are not hypocrites, criticizing the opposition but also their own leadership for the very same actions. Representative Omar will call the wall ‘xenophobic and racist’, regardless of who’s constructing it. We should be hearing the same from others, but many ‘progressives, like Ocasio-Cortez, usually fall in line with their party’s leaders’ policies, and again, regardless of whether it’s similar or different than the previous one,” he noted.

“Another consistency with both parties is the concept of eminent domain, taking private land for public use. Yet in this case it isn’t to build a hospital for all, but a wall to prevent people fleeing oppression, exploitation, and often death squads (governmental or drug, which can be the same), and most of these problems initiated and promoted by the corporate control over all administrations, north and south of the border,” the analyst concluded.
