Iran asks Interpol to issue red notice for Gen. Soleimani’s assassins
Iran has issued a red notice request to Interpol for the apprehension of the US president and 47 others in connection with the assassination of top Iranian anti-terror commander Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad last year.
Gholam Hossein Esmaili, Iran’s Judiciary spokesman, announced on Tuesday that Tehran has requested Interpol to issue a red notice for those involved in the US assassination of the prominent military commander.
Esmaieli said Iran has identified 48 people in connection with the targeted killing and that includes US President Donald Trump, Pentagon officials and American forces in the region.
The Iranian Judiciary spokesman said Tehran has made it clear in its request the role each individual played in the brutal assassination and stressed that Iran would seriously pursue the case to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Iran's Judiciary chief Ebrahim Raeisi said a day earlier that Trump would ultimately have to pay for ordering the assassination of General Soleimani “whether he heads the US administration or not."
US terrorists assassinated Lieutenant General Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), along with Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, deputy head of Iraq’s Hashd al-Sha’abi, and their companions by targeting their vehicles outside Baghdad International Airport on January 3.
The act of terror was carried out under the direction of Trump, with the Pentagon taking responsibility for the strike.
General Soleimani was viewed by the world's freedom-seeking people as the key figure in defeating Daesh, the world’s most notorious terrorist group, in the Middle East battles.
Iran unleashed a barrage of missiles on a US military base in Iraq on January 8 as part of its revenge for the assassination. US positions in Iraq have since been targeted several times.
Recently, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said revenge for the Iranian general was certain and would be exacted at the right time.
Anti-American sentiments have been running high in Iraq after the two senior commanders were assassinated in Baghdad, with Iraqi lawmakers unanimously passing a bill on January 5 that mandated the withdrawal of all foreign troops from Iraq.
Iraqi resistance groups have pledged to take up arms against US forces if Washington fails to comply with the parliamentary order.
