Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has congratulated US President-elect Joe Biden. In a statement, Abbas said he looks forward to working with the president-elect and his administration.

Palestinian officials have expressed their satisfaction with the departure of outgoing President Donald Trump and said that for them, nothing was worse than Trump's era.

Several Palestinian political groups have also expressed their satisfaction with, in the first place, the departure of President Trump, the man who took several anti-Palestinian measures including recognition of Jerusalem al-Quds as Israel’s "capital" in late 2017, moving the US embassy there and declaring the so-called deal of the century. This had led the Palestinian authority to halt its political dealings with Trump’s administration.

Israel's PM Benjamin Netanyahu who was among Trump’s close allies around world waited 12 hours to congratulate Biden but at the same time he thanked Trump for taking US-Israel ties to an unprecedented level.

For Palestinians, a change of administration in the US is not a promise of change in Washington's policy toward them. However, Palestinians do hope for a gain in Trump's departure, as his term in office is considered the worst even among most hostile US presidents.
