While the world is grappling with the repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic, many Iranian knowledge-based firms are working to boost production of medicine and medical equipment.

This comes after the United States expanded and intensified its unilateral and illegal sanctions against Iran, which is largely plagued by the virus. Tehran says Washington’s move to keep up sanctions amid the coronavirus pandemic has reached the brink of crime against humanity. It also says Washington has made groundless claims that its sanctions regime doesn’t include food, medicine and medical equipment.

Iranian local businesses and manufacturers believe that Washington’s coercive measures have failed to curb their abilities to produce essential supplies and medicine through financial and trade mechanisms. These businesses ... now retool their operations and will soon finalize deals to export their products to more than 15 countries in Europe, West Asia and Asia.

These essential supplies and equipment include medicines, test kits, face masks, gloves, and ventilators among others. Ever since the COVID-19 outbreak began, Iranian businesses and manufacturers have shown incredible collaboration, resilience and determination to tackle the crisis. Many state-owned entities have also stepped up their efforts to help produce much needed medical supplies.
