Campaigners are calling it ‘racist’ and ‘inhumane’ the plans by the government to deport 50 UK Nationals to the Caribbean island of Jamaica claiming that the individuals were not citizens due to having criminal records. This, despite many of those scheduled for removal arriving to Britain as children with their parents as citizens, having already served sentences and with families and livelihoods held in the UK.

On Monday night there was confusion, with some news reports suggesting the flight had been halted, while other reports on Tuesday morning suggested around half of those citizens scheduled for removal had boarded a charter flight to Jamaica. Those who remained have been ordered to do so by a UK court, due to reports of limited phone networks in holding areas, preventing those detained having access to lawyers and legal provisions.

Activists have pledged to continue fighting what they see as the racist targeting of British Caribbean communities, which is set to continue amid an ever-growing tide of racist nationalism building in the UK.

Activists are furious at the potential mass deportations of British Caribbean nationals as part of the hostile environment created by previous governments and continued under Boris Johnson.
