May sabotaging her premiership by forcing draft Brexit deal: Analyst

British Prime Minister Theresa May is sabotaging her own premiership by trying to force through the draft Brexit withdrawal agreement negotiated between the European Union and the United Kingdom, says an analyst.

“That’s not what we were promised of course and it is not what people voted for. One thing I’d say is if we do not leave the European Union I have a serious doubt about social unrest possibly here in the United Kingdom and it is not something we have seen for a long time but it is quite clear that is what people have voted for and it doesn’t look as if Theresa May is going to hand it to this country … So maybe this is almost like a sabotage deal,” Tony Gosling told Press TV in an interview on Thursday.

May has won support among British ministers for her Brexit deal with the European Union.

Speaking outside Number 10 on Wednesday, May confirmed that the cabinet had approved the draft Brexit withdrawal agreement.

The deal would pave the way for extension of the transition to an unspecified date.

Some have already started expressing opposition to May’s plan, namely the chair of the European Research Group, which represents Tory MPs favoring a harder Brexit.
