Iranian speed climber Reza Alipour Shenazandifard has received a bronze medal at the 2018 International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) World Cup in Italy.

The Iranian sportsman, nicknamed “Vertical World's Fastest Man”, featured great displays in the men’s speed competitions in the northern Italian town of Arco, and clocked 5.59 seconds in the third-place contest to defeat his Russian opponent Dmitrii Timofeev and receive the bronze medal.

Ukrainian competitor Danyil Boldyrev stood on top of the podium with 5.58 seconds.

Russian climber Aleksandr Shilov set the time of 5.70 seconds and claimed the second position of the chart.

The 2018 IFSC Climbing World Cup started on July 27 and finished the following day.

The tournament was held in women’s lead, women’s speed, men’s lead and men’s speed sections.

Speed climbing is a race in its purest form. Two contestants face each other while moving up the ice in this discipline, and the faster climber wins.

Lead climbing emphasizes on strength and techniques. Climbers go up the ice alone and try to reach a specific end point within a given amount of time.

To practice the sport at the highest level of competition, it takes athletes with strategic insight, power, precision and full commitment.
