Iranian sportsmen and women have demonstrated commendable athletic skills at the Asian Paracanoe Championships in Thailand, and collected eight medals, including two gold ones, in the continental event.
Female Iranian paracanoeist Roya Soltani participated in the finals of women’s VL2 competitions in the eastern city of Pattaya, located about 100 kilometers (62 miles) southeast of the capital Bangkok, on Saturday, and received the gold medal.
A contestant from India finished in the second spot and took the silver medal.
In the women’s KL3 section, Shahla Behrouzi Rad stood on the second podium, and followed a representative from Uzbekistan.
Islam Jahedi also snatched a silver medal in the men’s KL2 event. An Uzbek paracanoeist claimed the top spot, and a Japanese athlete stood third.
Moreover, Soltani finished as the vice champion in the women’s KL2 category.
Later in the day, Behrouzi Rad bested her counterparts in the women’s VL3 contests, and clinched the gold medal.
Additionally, Nader Eyvazi claimed the silver medal in men’s KL3 division.
Eyvazi and Jahedi had to settle for the bronze in the men’s VL3 and VL2 categories as well.
The Asian Paracanoe Championships kicked off on November 25, 2017, and finished the following day.
Representatives of Hong Kong, India, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Myanmar, South Korea and Uzbekistan participated in the tournament.
