Refugees stranded at the Macedonia-Greece border have blocked a railway in protest at the border closure. Anger has boiled over after Macedonia closed its border with Greece, causing a bottleneck and leaving thousands stranded. The border is only being opened periodically to allow small groups of asylum seekers to travel into Macedonia. Aid workers are warning about the refugees’ dire conditions in the area. Some European countries have taken unilateral actions amid the failure of the EU member states to adopt a concerted and comprehensive policy over the refugee crisis. According to UN figures, more than 100-thousand asylum seekers have arrived in Greece so far this year.
