Japanese police have stepped up their battle against illegal and hostile drones flights over the capital city’s airspace.

Tokyo authorities are to start integrating massive net-wielding interceptor drones into their security task forces.

Over the next year, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) will deploy specially-trained riot police units equipped with a drone carrying a two-by-three meter net and a camera for the unmanned crafts control, RT reported on Saturday.

The special unit’s mobilization follows recent revisions to the country’s aviation laws, which limits drone use. In accordance to the new act, drone operators will require special governmental clearance to fly over densely populated or strategically important areas.

The revisions were sparked by a security breach in April during which a drone, carrying radioactive sand and a smoke bomb, landed on the roof of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s office.
