A cache of weapons has gone missing following a break-in at a US Army Reserve center in Massachusetts, according to the FBI.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and local police are looking for the weapons, FBI spokeswoman Kristen Setera said late Sunday.

Setera did not specify what kind of weapons went missing or in what amount.

"The FBI is aware that some weapons are missing as a result of the break-in at the Army Reserve Center in Worcester," she said in a statement.

"We have entered those weapons into [the National Crime Information Center], a national database, and alerted our federal, state and local law enforcement partners," she added.

The FBI spokeswoman said there was no indication suggesting that the missing weapons are related to any kind of terrorism. "Nevertheless, every effort will be made to recover these weapons immediately."

The suspects are believed to have broken into the Army center through the roof.

Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker said an investigation was underway and that the FBI is working with state and local law enforcement to recover the weapons.
