Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani has criticized Saudi Arabia for its lack of cooperation over Thursday’s deadly stampede near the holy city of Mecca.
Rouhani made the remark during a meeting with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in New York. He said Riyadh is not cooperating with Tehran to transfer the bodies of the victims back to Iran or find those who are still unaccounted for. Rouhani also urged the UN chief to remind Saudi Arabia its legal and humanitarian obligations over the issue. Ban expressed his condolences to the Iranian president over the tragic deaths of scores of Iranian pilgrims in Thursday’s stampede.
