The US envoy for the so-called anti-ISIL coalition has reiterated Washington’s calls for ouster of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, whose country has been gripped by the Takfiri terrorists.
“Syria is never going to be solved militarily. Syria has got to be solved at a political level. Syria has got to have a political transition away from Bashar al-Assad,” General John Allen told ABC News last Friday (September 11) in an interview released Tuesday.
“He can’t be part of the solution,” Allen claimed. “What I recommend is that we focus on a political transition that removes Assad and removes the leadership and the manner in which he has led this conflict.”
Syrian forces under the command of President Assad have restlessly been battling Daesh terrorists on different fronts throughout the war-raveged country.
The US and its allies have conducted hundreds of airstrikes against the Takfiris in Syria for about a year but to no avail.
"We're not done yet," said the retired general.
He further warned that the terrorists of Daesh could enter the Western countries in the guise of refugees.
"I think we should watch it. We should be conscious of the potential that Daesh may attempt to embed agents within that population."
