A new study has shown that children in England are among the unhappiest in the world.
According to a study carried out by the Children’s Society in collaboration with the University of York, England was ranked 14th among 15 diverse country for life satisfaction of its young people.
Bullying at school has been described as the most important factor contributing to life dissatisfaction of the English children.
The study has found that more than a third of English children had been bullied in school, and half had felt excluded.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that nearly half a million 10- and 12-year-olds are physically bullied at school.
The study also shows that children in England are particularly unhappy about their appearance.
An award-winning children’s author blames exclusion of children from their age groups.
"Children are under pressure to wear the right clothes, to be in right shape, to have the right phone. There could be a lot of exclusion through fashion and the identity and bullying and unhappiness,” Alan Gibbons told Press TV’s UK Desk on Wednesday.
He also believes that the “bullying culture” which comes from the society is be the root cause of the problem.
"I think the problem with the UK coming 14th in the study of bullying is that this quite bullying culture is rising from society. And work is very high-pressured now in countries like the UK and in the US in particular," Gibbons added.
