The Zionist lobby in the West is pushing the United States and its European allies to scuttle the nuclear negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries, despite the fact that Tehran has negotiated in good faith, an American activist and radio host in California says.
“I predicted this scenario whereby in the 11th hour, there would be multiple efforts to scuttle the negotiations and that is coming true,” said Rodney Martin, a former US Congressional staffer.
“The various Western nations are now coming up with their own methods [and] redlines to scuttle an arrangement with Iran,” Martin said in a phone interview with Press TV on Friday.
“The worldwide Jewish Zionist political lobby which is very powerful in the United States, in Germany, in France, and particularly in the United Kingdom, has put its full force behind individual campaigns in those countries to scuttle the negotiation and of course the loser is world peace,” he added.
Iran and the P5+1 countries - the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany - have been engaged in long-running talks towards reaching a landmark agreement over Tehran’s nuclear program.
The negotiating sides missed an initial deadline of June 30 and all parties agreed on a new July 7 deadline. However, negotiations will continue for more days as some issues remain unresolved.
US Secretary of State John Kerry said Thursday that nuclear negotiations with Iran are not open-ended but there is no rush for a deal.
“We will not rush and we will not be rushed” to a comprehensive deal, he told reporters in the Austrian capital, Vienna. “We are not going to sit at the negotiating table forever” he said.
During a meeting with a group of Democratic senators on Wednesday, President Barack Obama said the chances of a deal with Iran were less than 50-50 at this point, according to one of the senators present at the meeting.
“For the United States particularly the Obama administration to say that they are in “no hurry” is a horrible position because the clock is running out on the Obama administration, [and] time is not on its side,” Martin said.
“Iran has demonstrated that it has negotiated in good faith, while protecting its political, territorial, and national interest on the world’s stage,” he added.
“These new developments where the West has all of a sudden demonstrated that it speaks with forked tongue and does not negotiate in good faith, shows the world that any time you go to the negotiations table with these western countries, be very, very careful because they have a history that in the 11th hour they will attempt to scuttle the negotiation,” the activist noted.
