Iraqi officials say eight people have been killed and over a dozen others wounded when three bomb attacks hit the capital, Baghdad, and the town of Madain to its southeast.

The Iraqi police forces said a bomb blast ripped through a commercial street in eastern Baghdad on Friday and claimed the lives of three people, the Associated Press reported.

Three people also lost their lives and eight more sustained injuries as another bomb went off near some shops in Madain, about 20 kilometers (14 miles) southeast of the capital.

The third bomb explosion struck a checkpoint, manned by pro-government forces, in the same town. Two guards were killed and five others wounded in the attack.

Police also said they had found two bodies with gunshot injuries to the head and chest in eastern Baghdad.

No one has so far claimed responsibility for the deadly explosions but officials say they had the hallmarks of the attacks by ISIL Takfiri terrorist group.

The northern and western parts of Iraq have experienced gruesome violence since ISIL Takfiri militants began their march through the Iraqi territory in June 2014. Units of army soldiers and volunteer fighters have joined forces and are seeking to retake militant-held regions.
