Press TV has interviewed Jesse Nevel, with the African People’s Solidarity Committee from Tampa, and Lee Kaplan, an investigative journalist from Berkeley, to discuss a shooting incident in Charleston, in the US State of South Carolina, where nine African Americans including six females and three males were shot dead during a church ceremony.
Nevel rules out President Barack Obama’s reasoning on the issue of gun control law as the root cause of shooting sprees in the United States, saying that African Americans are colonized in the country.
The US is built on slavery of African Americans and killing of indigenous people, he says, adding that the white Americans are against other races in the United States.
The activist also maintains that police officers and white vigilantes gun down an African in US streets every 28 hours, therefore the idea that mentally ill people kill others is “absurd.” He adds, the fact is that white people are complicit in the violence that built white imperialism and supremacy in the country.
For his part, Kaplan says a young man who was involved in the shooting of the church in Charleston was mentally ill, so the recent shooting incident does not relate to black colonization.
