US has long history of serious racism: Pundit

Press TV has interviewed Kevin Barrett, an editor of Veterans Today, in Madison, and George Lambrakis, a former US diplomat, in London, to discuss police brutality against African Americans in the United States.

Barrett says, “The United States does have a long history of serious racism” and the African Americans have been the oppressed community in a country that is a so-called supporter of human rights throughout the world.

The way the US has treated its black citizens over the past two centuries is similar to the way it treats people today in places like Iraq and Afghanistan, where people there have been relegated to the subhuman status, he says.

Barrett adds, “It is great to see that an international leader of an important nation like the Supreme Leader of Iran is standing up for the oppressed and speaking out like this; by the way, he has done this a number of times, he wrote the open letter to the youth of the West about terrorism.”

Lambrakis, for his turn, says there is some racial discrimination in the US but the country has tried to improve the situation. He point to the fact that the US has an African American as president.
