Genocide in Gaza

More deaths and destruction have been reported as the Israeli regime keeps pounding the Gaza Strip with airstrikes and artillery. In the latest massacre, a mother and her two children were killed in Israeli shelling on Gaza City. Israeli warplanes also targeted residential buildings in the Nusseirat refugee camp in the north of the coastal territory. The south of the strip was not spared as regime forces shelled a mosque in Khan Yunis, resulting in injuries. The Health Ministry in Gaza says Israeli forces have killed 34 civilians and injured 41 others in a single day. Over 34,600 Palestinians have been killed since last October when the Israeli genocide began, most of them women and children. The death toll is likely much higher with thousands buried under the rubble.

Gaza ceasefire talks

Hamas says Israel is obstructing reaching a ceasefire in Gaza by insisting on continuing its genocidal war on the coastal territory. The movement says it won’t agree under any circumstance to a deal that does not explicitly include stopping the war. Hamas said Israel seeks to establish a framework that would see its captives in Gaza being released without linking this to ending its aggression. The group said the Israeli prime minister is obstructing a ceasefire deal for personal interests. Currently, attention is focused on the Egyptian capital, Cairo, where intensive negotiations are taking place on a proposal to reach a ceasefire. Hamas had previously said that it wants a permanent ceasefire and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza. The movement also wants the unrestricted return of displaced Palestinians and the flow of more humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.

US student protests

US police forces have clashed with pro-Palestinian protesters at the University of Virginia amid an ongoing crackdown on the nationwide demonstrations. Police used pepper spray and tear gas to disperse demonstrators and clear an encampment on the fifth day of protests at the university. At least 25 people were arrested. This marks the latest escalation during the past several weeks of protests on US campuses against the US-Israeli genocide in Gaza. The protesters are also calling on universities to stop doing business with Israel or companies supporting the genocide. More than 24 hundred people have been arrested during the protests while many students have also been suspended. The demonstrations have spread to several other countries, including Canada, the UK, and France. In Germany, protesters on Saturday slammed the government for its support for the Israeli regime in its war on Gaza. While holding placards that read "Stop the Genocide", demonstrators in Berlin chanted Free Palestine. They also called on the German government to change its approach to the genocide and stop sending weapons to Israel. The demonstration in Berlin follows those in the UK and France and many other European capitals.
