Hamas ceasefire conditions
The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas says it will deliver its response to a new Israeli proposal on a potential ceasefire in Gaza, on Monday. A senior Hamas official said a delegation will arrive in Egypt’s capital on Monday and give the movement’s response. On Friday, the Deputy Chief of Hamas, Khalil Al-Hayya said the group had received the Israeli counterproposal, and was studying it thoroughly. Hamas says it is keen to reach an agreement that guarantees a permanent ceasefire, the free return of displaced people, an acceptable deal for Israeli captives and ensuring an end to the siege on Gaza.
Campus protests over Gaza
Students have been turning out across Iran to express support for their Western pro-Palestine counterparts who have been facing a government crackdown. Demonstrations were held in various Iranian universities, including the Persian Gulf University in Bushehr as well as Urmia, Lorestan and Kurdistan universities. The protesters also voiced solidarity with the people in Gaza enduring US-Israeli genocide. Students, faculty members and university staff have been holding demonstrations on US and European campuses in recent days to condemn and call for an end to the atrocities committed against Palestinians in Gaza. They have met a violent response by the police and authorities, including arrests and suspensions.
Russia's warning to West
Russia issues a stern warning to the West over a possible seizure of its assets, saying it will give a severe response to the move. The Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, said Moscow would pursue endless legal challenges and reciprocal measures if its assets are confiscated by Western countries. She also said Russia would never exchange territories taken back from Ukraine for its frozen assets. The United States and its allies have imposed harsh sanctions on Russia’s financial sector, resulting in the freezing of nearly 300 billion dollars of its assets in Western banks.
