‘Stop the war,’ anti-regime protesters chant in Tel Aviv
Thousands of anti-regime protesters have gathered in Tel Aviv, calling for an end to the Israeli regime’s ongoing genocidal war against the Gaza Strip.
The rallies were held in the coastal city on Saturday. Scuffles erupted as angry participants blocked the city’s main highway.
The regime launched the war in October, following al-Aqsa Storm, a retaliatory operation by Gaza’s resistance groups against the occupied territories, during which hundreds were taken captive.
The war has so far claimed the lives of at least 34,356 Palestinians, mostly women and children.
In November, the territory’s Hamas resistance movement released 105 of the captives in exchange for 240 Palestinian prisoners as part of a four-day truce deal.
The group has offered to release the rest of the captives in exchange for a complete ceasefire. The regime has, however, not only refused to accede to the demand, but has also significantly ramped up its aggression against the coastal sliver.
The demonstrators called on the regime to end the brutal military onslaught so it can bring back the captives.
"They need to stop the war…to bring them back…, stop the killings, stop the retaliation on the Palestinian people and start negotiations," one protester, Zach, told AFP.
“They want to make this war go as long as possible, keeping their chair,” another protester, Nadav Zohar, told Reuters.
The protests have been held in Tel Aviv as well as other locations across the occupied territories on a weekly basis since last year, with participants raging against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s regime and urging its resignation.
