Operation True Promise
Iran’s foreign minister says the UN Security council’s inaction on Israel’s attack on the Islamic Republic’s embassy in Syria prompted Tehran to launch its punitive action against the regime. Hossein Amir-Abdollahian was speaking in a phone conversation with his South African counterpart Naledi Pandor. The Iranian minister reiterated Iran’s position that it’s not after the expansion of the conflict in the region, but it will give a forceful response to any mistake by Israel. Regarding South Africa’s genocide case against Israel at the ICJ, Amir Abdollahian hailed it as a historic initiative. Pandor, for his part, stressed the need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
Pro-Palestine rallies
People have hit the streets of the German capital Berlin to show solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza nearly 200 days into the regime’s genocidal campaign. The protesters waved flags of Palestine and chanted pro-Palestinian slogans as they marched through the streets of Berlin. They called on the Israeli regime to immediately halt its strikes on the innocent people of Gaza. The demonstrators also demanded Western countries stop their financial and military support to the regime in Tel Aviv. The ralliers called on international institutions to bring the Israeli regime to justice for its crimes committed against the innocent women and children in Gaza.
Israel protests
Thousands of Israelis have once again rallied in Tel Aviv to protest against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over his failure to secure the release of captives in Gaza. The protestors urged Netanyahu to resign and called for holding early elections. They urged the Israeli cabinet to reach a deal with resistance groups for the release of the captives. Netanyahu has been in hot water over his handling of the Gaza war. Israel has so far failed to release any of the captives by military means. It has also failed to achieve any of its stated goals of the war. Dozens of captives have been killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza. Israel has been the scene of anti-Netanyahu rallies for months. The premier is embroiled in a series of scandals. His charges, among others, include fraud and breach of trust in three cases filed in 2019.
