Germany’s Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock was in Israel. She urged “prudent restraint” against the backdrop of Iran’s Operation True Promise against the occupying regime in retaliation for its April 1 bombing of the Iranian consulate in Damascus.

Baerbock on Wednesday said she had made clear during her talks with Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, and others that West Asia must not get into a perilous situation.

“The region must not slide into a situation whose outcome is completely unpredictable,” she told reporters.

“Everyone must now act prudently and responsibly. I am not talking about giving in. I am talking about prudent restraint,” Baerbock said, before departing Israel for a Group of Seven (G7) meeting where she said she would discuss new sanctions against Iran.

The G7 foreign ministers gathered on the Italian island of Capri later in the day. The group reiterated support for Israel.

In the multi-pronged Operation True Promise on April 13, Iran launched hundreds of drones and missiles at the occupied territories.

Operation True Promise has inflicted damage on Israeli military bases across the occupied territories. The extent of damage is yet to be specified.

The Israeli airstrikes on Iran’s embassy compound in Damascus killed two generals of the Quds Force of IRGC, Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi and General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, as well as five of their accompanying officers.

Following Iran’s attack, Israel says it must retaliate to preserve the credibility of its deterrence.

Iran has already warned Israel against taking any retaliatory actions and also urged the United States to keep away from involvement in the conflict and signaled that it viewed the matter as “concluded.”
