On Christmas Day, raiding Israeli troops light up Jenin sky with flare bombs
Early on Christmas Day, Israeli forces lit up the sky over a Palestinian refugee camp in the occupied West Bank with flare bombs, while raiding and vandalizing the camp and several other areas.
Gunfire and sirens could be heard in Jenin early Monday. The Jenin refugee camp was the flash point.
The Freedom Theatre, a Palestinian cultural center with its headquarters in Jenin, described on X how the camp was raided and vandalized by Israeli soldiers. “Christmas Day begins with another attack on Jenin Refugee Camp, as the Israeli army lights up the sky with Flare bombs.”
Israel has repeatedly attacked Jenin since October 7, when the regime started its bombardment of the Gaza Strip.
“Jenin refugee camp is now the most raided camp in the occupied West Bank. The Israeli forces are destroying any symbol of resistance or nationalism in the camp,” an Al Jazeera correspondent said while reporting from the camp.
The regime has killed more than 300 Palestinians in the West Bank since that October day.
The raid on Monday followed several others across the occupied territory which saw dozens of arrests and the shooting in the neck of a 17-year-old boy. According to Palestinian news agency Wafa, the 17-year-old was injured when Israeli forces fired live ammunition in the town of Aqaba, north of Tubas.
Among towns hit by the regime’s forces was the historic city of Bethlehem, where Christians believe is the birthplace of Jesus Christ. Celebrations are halted in the “capital of Christmas” this year due to Israel’s barbarism.
British bishop Justin Portal Welby said “the skies of Bethlehem are full of fear rather than angels and glory.”
Regions in and near Nablus, Jericho, Ramallah were also raided overnight by Israeli forces.
Israeli troops arrested at least 20 people, including senior citizens, in the village of Burqa, northwest of Nablus.
