China says all 132 people on board crashed plane dead

All 132 people, including 123 passengers and nine crew members, aboard the China Eastern Airlines flight MU5735 that crashed on March 21 have perished, an official of the Civil Aviation Administration of China says.

The crash took place on Monday in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region's Tengxian County after the Boeing 737 aircraft nose-dived in a mountainous area.

"It is with deep sadness that we announce here that all 123 passengers and nine crew members on Flight MU5735 of China Eastern Airlines on March 21 have perished," Hu Zhenjiang, on-site deputy commander-in-chief from the national emergency response command on handling the plane crash, said Saturday night.

The Boeing 737 aircraft, which was flying from Kunming to Guangzhou, crashed into a mountainside 66 minutes after take-off.

There is so far no information available about the cause of the crash.

Both black-boxes of the plane, the flight data recorder (FDR) and the cockpit voice recorder (CVR), have been retrieved.

However, interim reports into a crash are usually published about a month after the incident and full investigations take a year or more.

Aviation experts say air accidents usually result from a combination of factors including pilot error, mechanical failure, and bad weather.
