Copa del Rey: Athletic Bilbao 1-0 Real Madrid
Spain’s Real Madrid have been knocked out of the Copa del Rey, after falling to Athletic Bilbao 1-0 away from home.
In an intense and compelling matchup but low on chances neither team managed to carve out any golden opportunities. But the deadlock was finally broken by substitute Alex Berenguer in the 89th minute as he took advantage of a defensive mistake and scored a late shock goal to fire Bilbao into the Semi-finals.
With Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Sevilla already out, Madrid were strong favorites to win the Copa del Rey. However it will be Athletic that join Real Betis, Valencia and Rayo Vallecano in the last four.
