Iranians are going to the polls in the country’s 13th presidential election since the 1979 Islamic Revolution to elect a new chief executive.

The enthusiasm was high even from before the polls opened, with the people forming long queues outside polling states countrywide.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei was the first to cast his ballot, followed by other senior officials, including heads of the three branched of government.

In a magnificent display of national unity, followers of other faiths, including the Jews, the Christians, and the Zoroastrians, joined their Muslim compatriots on Election Day to have a say in the homeland's political future.

Many of the voters have been carrying pictures of highly-popular national hero Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, who was assassinated by the terrorist US military last year, while they were standing in line to vote.

Here is a selection of photos taken by Iranian news agencies from voting sites countrywide.
