Life is on ‘Line of Control’ between India, Pakistan

On Friday, an incident in Kashmir made headlines around the world when at least 15 people, including five security personnel, lost their lives in a fire exchange across the Line of Control, a border dividing the region between Pakistan and India. After the end of the clashes, mourning began in the Uri sector.
Sixteen-year-old Sumaira Bano and her four siblings lost their mother Farooqa Bano.
Basher Ahmad says his wife’s body could not be buried up until the end of the fight.
The recent escalation on the Line of Control has resulted in damage and destruction and has forced many from their homes.
So far the government has not visited the affected areas and has not offered any relief to the families of the victims.
Since the partition of the subcontinent into India and Pakistan, Kashmir has been a bone of contention between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. The two countries have fought three wars over the territory, but the issues still remain unsettled.
Despite the presence of UNMOG on both sides of the Line of Control, the ceasefire agreement signed between the two countries in 2003 has often been violated.
The two rivals have so far chosen the blame game over settlement.
