Funeral held for Yemeni boy whose mother fought to enter US
A critically ill two-year-old boy, whose Yemeni mother had been fighting the Trump Administration's so-called Muslim ban for over a year to see her dying son, passed away on Friday and was buried in Lodi, California on Saturday.
His mother, Shaima Swileh, had just been reunited with her son as she was finally granted entry to the United States only ten days before his death.
"The Muslim ban stopped my wife from coming to the US for over a year. It forced me to choose between my son's health and keeping our family together," said Abdullah's father, Ali Hassan at the boy's funeral at the California Islamic Centre.
The boy's father, Ali Hassan is a US citizen and married Shaima Swileh in Yemen in 2016. Swileh was then restricted from entering the US due to the Muslim travel ban, and a year-long legal battle to be granted a waiver ensued. The boy died last Friday at a children's hospital Oakland after spending his last weeks on life support.
